Kirby Tang Yuan with Peanuts & Sugar
One of my favourite ways to enjoy tang yuan is covered in peanuts & sugar. Here is a simple recipe to make these cute Kirby tang yuan.
Ingredients:
I have attached links for some of the ingredients/items that I used below.
Kirby’s head/body & arm dough:
60g Glutinous Rice Flour
2g Beet Juice
48g Water
Kirby’s feet & cheek dough:
20g Glutinous Rice Flour
3g Beet Juice
13g Water
Decoration:
50g Peanuts
30g Sugar
Steps:
Take your food processor or blender to crush your peanuts into granular sand.
Take your crushed peanuts and mix them with sugar. Evenly spread the mix onto your plate.
To make Kirby’s head/body & arm dough: Take 2g of beet juice and place it in a bowl. Take 48g of water and place it into the beet juice bowl. Gradually add your beet juice water into your glutinous rice flour, and mix until a dough forms.
The consistency should not be too dry, where it will crumble, but not too wet, where it will stick to your fingers.
Divide the dough into 8g and roll them into a ball (this will be Kirby’s head/body). Remember to save some of the dough for the arms.
To make Kirby’s arms, take less than 1 g of the dough and shape it into an oval. You can look at the picture below for reference.
To make Kirby’s feet & cheek dough: Take 3g of beet juice and place it in a bowl. Take 13g of water and place it into the beet juice bowl. Gradually add your beet juice water into your glutinous rice flour and mix until a dough forms.
The consistency should not be too dry, where it will crumble, but not too wet, where it will stick to your fingers.
To make Kirby’s feet, take less than 1g of dough and roll them into an oval. To make Kirby's cheeks, take a very small amount and roll the dough into an oval. You can look at the picture below for reference.
To stick on Kirby’s arms, feet, and cheeks, I highly recommend dabbing a little bit of water on Kirby’s head/body beforehand. The water acts like glue and this will help them stay in place when boiling.
Turn your stove to high heat.
Once the water starts boiling, turn the stove to low heat. Slowly add in your tang yuans. Once they float, they are cooked and ready to go.
One by one, drip off any excess water of your tang yuan and then place it on top of your peanut/sugar mix. You can place them however you’d like.
Melt dark chocolate and draw Kirby’s eyes and mouth.
Melt white chocolate and draw in Kirby’s pupil.
